Yahoo! goes hard gay
Here's a 7-minute capture from a Japanese variety program. I thought this seems interesting enough to put online, given that it involves Yahoo!. The story-line of this sketch is as follows: A character called “Hard Gay” (by comedian Masaki Sumitani aka “Lazer Ramon”) thinks that the “Hoo!” in Yahoo! is stolen from his often used exclamation and goes to visit Yahoo! headquarters to try to get a deal. He wants to be in their ads, even goes to prove that he's popular by auctioning off his hat to Yahoo! online auction site. Sure enough, the hat's bidding jumps to about $250 pretty quickly. It's obvious Yahoo! cannot use this character for promotion, so “Hard Gay” goes off to prove what he can do. There's no shocking material in this unless you're offended by hip-thrusts. Whether or not it's funny is up to you. Note that Yahoo! offices sport a massage room.
UPDATE: Due to the video's popularity, I have decided to create a torrent file. You will need a BitTorrent or similar client to download the original movie (and it's recommended to help seed it).
UPDATE: English article on the comedian doing the HG character. A good read.

I just wish I understood Japanese.
i think he is the coolest advertisement in the world.
that's hilarious. I wish I was more fluent in Japanese. That guy talks really fast. But even if you can't speak Japanese, there's enough visual humor to keep you rolling around laughing.
Especially the ending.
This is like a skit in Sabado Gigante or one of those Hispanic variety show, made funnier by the fact that it's in Japanese. Hard Gay is hilarious!
What does SEI mean? He's shouting it all the time.
He made that up himself. Most likely taken from "say", which would explain why it's written in katakana.
this is absolutely fantastic. i don't understand a word, but the visual comedy speaks for itself!
The funniest bit is from the beginning. He says "Why isn't the receptionist a guy? Oh how sad!".
I find Japanese comedians must be so desparate for tv time they're willing to do any kind of schtick to get it. I remember one show they flew 2 guys to the tip of South America, gave em $50 and told them to get to Alaska. It took them over a year to do it. Not to mention Nasubi, who spent several months naked in Korea trying to win food and prizes in mail-order contests. Fear Factor feels like a nursery school in comparison.
Charlie, if you actually lived in Japan you'd know just how bad the TV really is. Id say its the worst quality in the first world.
HG is actually one of the few interesting "talents" on TV simply because he vigorously likes to flaunt the establishment.
Actually after watching it (its pretty funny I have to admit) it looks prettly clearly like a shameless publicity stunt by Yahoo! Japan (otherwise how would a comedian get so much access to the insides of a major corporation?) to try and one-up the CEO of a competitor (Horiemon and Livedoor) who is getting tonnes of publicity by running for federal goverment (he lost yesterday).
Damn, I really wish I could speak Japanese. The visual humour alone is worth it, though.
Now I know what the Y! Japan offices look like... nice.
Say! Say! Say! Ryan! I wouldn't claim Japanese TV is the worst in the world. Don't tell me American TV is better. Granted, most Japanese TV shows are quite food-based, but stuff like Mecha-Ike, Cocorico, Bakuten and heck, throw in Utaban, are quite funny.
He almost reminds me of Liberace, in a way.
Eh... Maybe someone wants to provide a transcript, but don't ask me, I'm way too busy.
@jojo
haha i've recently downloaded the 0410hard.wmv video, this one's hilarious too. but i can't find the other one. i gotta get it! and i've uploaded the 0410hard.wmv video here: http://www.rocketsociety.net/vid_files/0410hard.wmv
Ilarious XD
I think his 'SEI' is kinda 'Talk to the hand'.
At least that's what the motion and word suggest to me.
Damn, I miss japanese TV now. :)
actually yes he is the best comeedian in japan nowadays!!
I think "Sei!" is short for Urusai maybe? which is shut up ? cuz he goes like SEI SEI SEI DAMARE, and damare also means something like Shut up :)
"SEI" means nothing, just a heated voice like "uhaa!"
maybe you can hear it at KARATE or JUDO,something like that.
Adriaan, I agree with you about Japanese TV having a lot of good shows... sure, American TV has stuff like the Daily Show, The Simpsons and 24, but that's more than made up for with crap like Friends and American Idol.
My favourite thing about Mecha Ike is that they make fun of other Japanese shows mercilessly... and gaijin too... "Stomp 8" is hilarious...
Yeah, "Stomp 8" is indeed funny.
ハードゲイ凄ぇな
He was just picked up on the most fammous Japanese newspaper (Asahi shinbun) in this week. Writer said that he's really normal person and never used "SAY" or shaking while he interviewed to HG. He's doing very strange things, but his personality is very nice and it is welcomed to many people especialy like kids and so on.
For anyone interested I made a torrent with a number of clips of Hard Gay.
http://www.datorrents.com/download.asp?id=2703&name=Hard%20Gay.torrent
HG is a person to be epoch-making in Japan.
There was not the cheerful gay so far to here.
A meaning of SAY.
He means"pay attention to me"!
He uses these words in a meaning to "Shut up!".
However, SAY can understand a Japanese when it is the meaning "that it says".
There is a remark of "SAY,SAY,SAY,SAY,DAMARE(Shut up)!"
There can laugh.
poor english sorry
Thanks "me". 590mb worth of HG is going to be funny as hell I hope. Anyway, this clip had me roflmao before school yesterday, and today it's changed to a torrent file and all that, how funny. Anyway, thanks for sharing this stuff. :D
"Sei" is also Japanese for "sex".
No, that'd be "性", which is better translated as "gender". As the Japanese commenters above already wrote, this "sei" is more like "say" and shouldn't be taken literally.
HG is Japanese LAST SAMURAI!
I live in Japan, and I saw this on TV when it aired, it was Sunday night, and I remember going back to my high school on Monday, and you could walk down the hall past random classrooms, and see and hear people doing bad Hard Gay impressions and everyone laughing... As soon as I got to my room, all my friends asked me if I had seen Hard Gay and they started humping towards me... Hilarious but creepy. It's almost surprising that it's so popular here, because I know that in America, people would be ashamed of this kind of programming, and it would be cancelled immediately. America is way too conservative for this stuff, people would start sueing each other and the world would go down in a ball of flames.
Sei sei sei sei sei HOOOO!! OH KAY!!
My take is that "Hard Gay" is making a play on the word "Uresai", or the more colloquial "uresei". Meaning shut up! Or more literally "you are too noisy", abbreviated to "sei" (say).
The idea of this sketch is that HG is going into get a commercial (CM) for Yahoo. He doesn't get the CM, but does get to be a "kanban guy" or billboard man. The company has a massage guy, that HG takes over.
Whooo!
Hard gay is really popular in Japan.
Actually,he graduated prestige university!
He is very funny.
He is always crying"foooooooo!!!!!" It's crazy! I like him very much.
He keeps nice body!
As to "Sei", basically it has no actual meaning in itself but is a kind of typical call that we usually hear when half-naked, mannish, masculine and sweating men shout as they are carrying a portable shrine around town at Japanese traditional festivals. The word reminds us Japanese people of that truly men's world and I guess this can be a reason why the HG uses the word so often.
Hm, aren't they shouting "Washoi", those shrine carriers?
"Wa-shoi" is really a harmless sort of call that children and women would pick to shout. You would find guys shout "Sei! Sei!" loud and rather proudly when you visit historical festivals held in the areas such as old Osaka, Fukuoka or shitamachi region in Tokyo. まあだいたいヤンキー連中なんですけどね、つまり。
“Lazer Ramon” is supposed to be "Leather Ramon" :)
See, that's why I don't like katakana. It's always a puzzle to figure out what English word they transformed. I wish they just used romaji.
I'm pretty sure "sei" is contracted from "Urusee" which is a slurred/slang version of "Urusai," meaning "shut up." Notice how it is used in this context with "talk to the hand" gestures...
His "sei" would translate as "whoa!"in eng
i.e. "whoa, whoa, whoa! One moment there lady", and the sort
btw, heres a good site
http://taqya.sakura.ne.jp/anime/hg/hg.html
wow, HG is so great...
btw, is that site down? well, at least the .wmvs? i don't speak japanese, but it looks like a 404...
also, we need some decent seeds for the torrent....i'm downloading with 4kb/s...hey, i'm gonna be done in just 57 hours o_O
anyway, thanks for the infos
OKAY! WHOOOOO!
I just saw HG on TV and actually, even japanese people ask him what 'sei' means. He gave an explanation, but it didn't make any sense to any of them.
Japanese peoples rule, engrish bad but japanese peoples are good

His Video's!!! ↑
So cool!!!
My comment is to someone who posts as gen, you said lazer ramon is actually leather ramon. Well I don't mean to contradict you, but actually its razor ramon. And that is actaully from a long ago famous pro wrestler... Actually thats why HG's clothes are like they are because they are very similar to that wrestlers regular gear...
In the end HG is sooo damn funny!!!!
Hi, here is more HARD GAY video!

killing time is so FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I have shown some HG videos to my friends (most of them anime fans & japanese-pop culture fans), and they have been pretty much ROFL or just wide-eyed that they cant belive something so... well, farfetched is aired on tv (and allowed to get close to kids; for this, watch when HG helps the guy from the Ramen Shop get more clients o___o priceless)
Umm, i must say this show is pretty crazy. Granted that i am going to japan in a couple of weeks to say with a host family, this is kinda making me not look foward to it.
ohh you are so lucky XX"
I wanted to go this summer to a host family in japan too with a program called GEOS but... its too darn expensive OO" I dont think ill be able to collect enough money ;;
oh and Hard Gay Rocks!!! XD
A good link to subtitled videos is here:

Just finished watching them, you can say im a new fan...he is just too crazy !!!! but thats why i love this show ^^
The "sei" doesnt mean anything if you go into the official website of HG. Its just a sound effect, thats what he himself says.
